CINNAMON
This is a small, 28-square-meter shop located along the coast in Kamakura. The owner serves a daily rotation of light meals and breakfast, including their specialty cakes, bread, and homemade sausages.
The space was designed using a unique "carving out" method within an existing, ordinary residence.
By intentionally leaving the existing residential exterior untouched, it creates an intentional sense of dissonance (an odd landscape), as if the shop facade has been abruptly inserted into the home's wall.
The facade is constructed from hot-dip galvanized steel plates treated with phosphate. It is fully glazed, intended to reveal the internal atmosphere to passersby.
Inside, everything from the counter, tables, and chairs to the lighting and cake showcase was custom-designed and fabricated for the shop. In this compact 28-square-meter space, the owner's presence and the texture of the materials are densely condensed, creating a unique atmosphere that balances intimacy (a "cute" quality) and a sharp material coolness.
