Y-Legs Study (Table Leg Study)

In structural mechanics, the triangle is the "smallest stable unit" that resists deformation. This project is a study in fabricating "Y-Legs"—four independent table legs—that apply this simple geometric principle to support a rectangular top.

This project is a fabrication study of table legs, titled “Y-Legs.”

In structural mechanics, assuming members are pin-jointed (free to rotate), the triangle is the smallest geometric unit that will not deform or collapse under external force.

We attempted to design and fabricate four independent legs based on this most simple and stable form—the triangle—to support a rectangular wooden tabletop.
