RGB Machine (Cabinet Design)
This project involved the cabinet design for "RGB Machine," a collaborative new work by YOSHIROTTEN and Baku Hashimoto, unveiled at EASTEAST_TOKYO 2023 (presented by NOZZA SERVICE).
The exhibition, curated alongside paintings by Jonathan Zawada, explored themes of "physical traces" left after interaction with the digital realm and the "re-presentation of physicality" being lost from devices. Based on this concept, we designed and managed the fabrication of a selenium-gray cabinet serving as a device to reclaim physicality.
Furthermore, the design drawings for this project were produced as a print edition titled "RGB Blueprint" in collaboration with Ricoh's art brand, "StareReap."
Composed of blueprints created by Pai kal Paullen alongside graphics from the "RGB Punk" series, this work utilizes StareReap's special 2.5D printing technology. By layering solid ink on a flat surface to create a three-dimensional effect, it gives a distinct physical "presence" and texture to the "uncertain, floating existence" reminiscent of 90s screen savers.
Printed with the specifications of cyanotype blueprints used in architecture, the work sublimates YOSHIROTTEN's personal memories (of blueprints owned by his aunt) and his primal digital scenery through cutting-edge printing technology.
