Felt Study (An Homage to Beuys)

Joseph Beuys, a German contemporary artist, famously used materials like fat and felt as "sculpture." This project is a study paying homage to him, prototyping a waste bin and a laptop case using industrial felt.

This prototype is an homage to Joseph Beuys, one of the 20th century’s most significant contemporary artists.

Beuys is known for frequently using felt in his work—based on his personal history—as a material symbolizing insulation, warmth, and protection.

Focusing on this specific material, we prototyped two everyday objects using industrial-grade felt.

A 15mm-thick hard felt was used for a self-supporting “waste bin,” taking advantage of its rigid texture. A 5mm-thick soft felt was processed into a “laptop case” designed to protect a notebook computer.
