The “0.5 mm” Screening Pavilion, Kochi (2014)

In 2014, director Momoko Ando asked us to draw up a basic plan for a temporary cinema to screen her film "0.5 mm" in Kochi. We developed the scheme on two sites: a riverside park along the Kagami River, and Suberiyama, a small hill at Kochi Castle.

“0.5 mm” is a film written and directed by Momoko Ando, based on her own novel and shot in Kochi. Ando asked us to draw up a basic plan for a temporary cinema to screen the film in Kochi.

Site: Kagamigawa Midori-no-Hiroba, a riverside park along the Kagami River in central Kochi.
Site plan. The cinema sits along the river on a site of approx. 4,030 m².
Plan. 12 m × 35 m (approx. 420 m²), 170–200 seats.
Section.
Elevation. The floor is raised on scaffolding-tube legs; the body is a membrane structure.
The site.
The same view with the cinema.
All films to be screened were to be independent films.
Later, Suberiyama, a small hill north of Kochi Castle (within Kochi Park), was proposed as a new site, and the plan was revised.
Contour model of the site.
